About the Innkeepers

Karl and "Toni" Mertz are the owner/innkeepers. Karl grew up alternating between Mendham, NJ and Long Beach, MS, spending most of his adult life in the Atlanta, GA area. "Toni," originally Maria Antonia Martinez of Mexico, was raised in Monmouth and Galesburg, Illinois.   A recent early retiree from federal civil service, Karl has written two books that are available through Amazon.com, etc.

Besides being the inn's yard boy, he's a graduate of Perkinston Jr. College, The University of Southern Mississippi, Emory University, and Vanderbilt University, and has appeared on "20/20" and in "The Wall Street Journal." The real innkeeper, "Toni," is a graduate of the Atlanta School for Floral Design and was working as a designer when she and Karl met. They have four "grown" sons.
